Form fields without labels

Message shown by axe and Lighthouse: Form elements must have labels · label · WCAG 4.1.2

What it means and why it matters

Without a label, screen-reader users don't know what to type into a field — checkout and newsletter forms become guesswork (WCAG 1.3.1, 4.1.2).

How to fix it

Connect a visible <label for="…"> to every input. Placeholders are not a replacement for labels.

Code example

Before

<input type="email" name="newsletter" placeholder="Your email">

After

<label for="nl-email">Email for our newsletter</label>
